Protective Services

We provide protective services to the elderly and children who are in danger of harm, unable to protect themselves, and/or have no one else to assist them. SCOJFS is mandated to investigate and evaluate all reports of suspected abuse and neglect.

Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Issues Another Warning on SNAP Fraud

“Criminals continue to prey on vulnerable Ohioans who rely on food assistance to supplement their monthly grocery costs,” Director Matt Damschroder said. “SNAP recipients should be vigilant in protecting their benefits by looking for signs of skimming, protecting their EBT card number and PIN, and using tools such as the ConnectEBT app and its “Lock Everywhere” feature to avoid becoming victims.” Criminals use a process called “skimming” to steal EBT card numbers. This is when a fraudulent device is placed over a point-of-sale card reader to steal payment card information. When a recipient swipes their card over a compromised device, they are unsuspectingly sharing their card information with criminals.

If able download this app on your iphone or android and lock your card when not in use.

We have received information amount texting scams with our recipients.   DO NOT click the links in a text or email message.   You should manually type in the link to the ODJFS self-service portal and change their password.   Some examples are below but remember there are a lot of scammers out there:

A SNAP recipient, recently approved, received a text message stating her account was part of a “data leak.” The text message read:

          Ohio.gov – Anthony20

This password has appeared in a data leak, which puts this account at high risk of compromise. You should change your password immediately.

Another message appeared indicating it came from the Passwords component of their iPhone; it read:

          Compromised Password

The password for your ohio.gov account has appeared in a data leak, putting your account at high risk of compromise. iPhone can help you re-secure your account.
